AFFILIATIONS
Welcome to Good Shepherd Center
Established in 1864, Good Shepherd Center is a non-profit residential treatment center for adolescents, ages 13 to 21, who are suffering from severe emotional and behavioral problems. Located on 70 wooded acres in Baltimore County, the Center provides therapeutic services and an MSDE-approved non-sectarian education in a residential and day school setting for students from throughout Maryland.
Good Shepherd Center is dedicated to the belief that no matter how severe the symptoms, all children can be reached and succeed in having productive lives. The Center’s mission is “Love in Action” and the belief that “One person is more precious than a world.” Good Shepherd Center focuses on creating an environment based on respect and caring which empowers its residents to reach their maximum potential for wholeness.

Funders Help GSC Students Grow and Learn
From helping Good Shepherd students focus on their transition back into the community to supporting a lively Winterfest, GSC funders are helping our students grow and learn!
In 2011, Good Shepherd Center was awarded grants by both the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention (GOCCP) Juvenile Accountability Block Grant (JABG) Program and the United Way of Central Maryland Impact Strategies Program to develop our Occupational Preparation and Transition Age Youth (OPTAY) Program which includes activities like the Horticulture Club Plant Sale shown in the photo. Activities like these give our adolescent girls and boys the skills and confidence to provide a brighter future for themselves.
In addition, Maryland State Arts Council funded Good Shepherd Center’s participation in the AiE Artists-in-Residence Program. This program enabled Baba Jamal Koram to bring his storytelling and drumming workshops to GSC students opening them to new perspectives and cultures and encouraging them to participate in a dialogue with each other.
